In 1989 the director Peter Greenaway hired Gaultier to design the costumes for "The Cook, the Thief, his Wife and her Lover."
In 1990 he went cult, when he designed the pointed corsets for Madonna's Blond Ambition tour.
His talent to make things really spectacular has brought the great breakthrough for him, while his winter 2000/2001 collection contains a lot of easy to wear items.
