All around Kandy thousands of hard working Sri Lankan Police officers are on full alert during the Perehara weeks in order to ensure a peaceful and enjoyable festival time for their citizens.
And then Lord Buddha and the Police are certainly the most important authorities during the entire Kandyan Perehara season and everyone is following their rules.
And a few years ago it was even more than 20.000 brave officers that were required to ensure the security in Kandy by searching thoroughly for explosives and Tamil Tigers.
The very hard working Sri Lankan Police is always on a high alert when it comes to protect the well being of all Sri Lankan citizens when chasing for illegal alcohol during the Perehara days as that would be against the will of Lord Buddha, as the Sri Lankan government and the Sri Lankan Monks officially presume.
Every few meters a group of diligent Police officers ensures, that there will be no disturbances of the Perehara ceremony such as people passing by with alcoholic drinks, weapons or explosives.
During the Perehara the extremely industrious Police is having a very close look in particular at all Tuk-Tuk drivers in an attempt to enforce the government's total ban on even transporting any type of soft and hard liquor around Kandy.
Especially those Tuk-Tuks that carry foreign looking passengers are a preferred target for them, what may explain these incredibly long queues at all liqueur stores around the entire Kandy area before the Perehara begins.
