Thousands of tourists had come to Galle, Unawatuna,
Hikkaduwa a.o. locations to celebrate the 2004 Christmas
in Sri Lanka.
On Dec 25 parties had been plenty and most likely wonderful
at "Kingfisher" and other fine venues, so
that early in the morning people were recovering from
joyful festivities.
For example at 10 PM most guests at Ravi`s and Imco`s
Surfcity Guesthouse had their breakfast, when the mighty
Tsunami wave had slowly rolled into the bay, where only
a few buildings had been strong enough whilst most others
like the Peacock Guesthouse were flattened completely.
Concrete, lorries, vans, containers and tons of other
stuff had been shoved around by the giant flood, which
had forced survivors up the hill, where they found shelter
at local villains in the temple area.
Fortunately the casualties had not been too many, but
once the wave was gone, looters started to grab whatever
looked valuable.
